Todd Muchnick

Todd received his law license from St. Louis University in 1986. He obtained his law license in Missouri in 1986, and in Illinois in 1987. His first job was for the Kemper Insurance Company in their claims’ litigation office. He defended worker’s compensation cases, asbestos cases and other civil cases. After a couple years doing defense work, Todd realized that his heart was in the wrong place and he found himself frustrated by the insurance company’s practice of minimizing the claimants’ recoveries. Since 1988, Todd’s practice has been devoted to representing injury victims and their families in injury cases. Todd's practice includes Car Accidents, Truck Accidents (18 Wheelers and Semis), Wrongful Death, Toxic Tort, Product Liability, Workers' Compensation, Construction Site Accidents and Premises Liability cases (slip/trip and falls and assaults). He has also handled employment discrimination, police chase cases and other cases like dog bites and general negligence claims.

Todd concentrates his practice in civil litigation involving bodily injury claims. His experience encompasses all aspects of litigation, including pre-lawsuit investigation and evaluation of accidents, all phases of discovery, motion practice and trial practice. Todd has tried over 50 injury cases to verdict, in State and Federal courts throughout Missouri and Illinois. In 1996, Todd and a former partner, successfully represented Joe and Sharon Bruemmer in a product liability case against General Motors Corporation. The trial lasted two weeks in the City of St. Louis Circuit Court. After presenting the testimony of over twenty live witnesses, including five expert witnesses, the jury returned a verdict in favour of Joe and Sharon for a total of $19.5 million. The verdict included an award for Sharon Bruemmer for $3 million for her loss of consortium. The award for Sharon Bruemmer’s loss of consortium is still one of the largest consortium verdicts in the State of Missouri.  Please click here to read Todd Muchnick's closing in the Bruemmer case.  The verdict form for the case can be found here.

Todd has also been involved in at least seven other 7 figure recoveries by verdict or settlement.  These cases have involved product liability (punch press), product liability (air tool), motor vehicle accidents, improper police chase, wrongful death and general negligence against a bar owner.  Other 6 figure verdicts have involved a motor vehicle accident resulting in post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and a tractor trailer accident involving a back surgery.

Todd is well versed in the handling of accidents involving passenger vehicles and tractor trailers or semis. He has extensive knowledge of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSR) as they relate to safe trucking practice. Todd has also established professional relationships with numerous highly qualified expert witnesses that are often used for consultation and to provide trial testimony. These experts include medical doctors, psychiatrists/psychologists, economists, life care planners, engineers, accident reconstructionists, construction site safety experts and tractor trailer safety consultants.

Todd is also experienced in appellate practice, as well as alternative dispute resolution, including mediation and arbitration. He is a member of the Million Dollar Advocates Forum and is AV rated by Martindale-Hubbell.

Todd was born St. Louis, Missouri, and besides his collegiate years at Mizzou he has lived in St. Louis his entire life. He is married and has three daughters. Todd is active in the community and is involved in a number of charities, including the American Cancer Society, the Red Cross and the Disabled American Veterans. He has served as the chairman of the JCC charity golf tournament and is a former board member of Meadowbrook Country Club, where he previously served on the executive committee and as Club President.  Todd is currently a mentor with Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Eastern Missouri.
